background

The Challenge

The main challenge I faced when creating the microsite for MBX was trying to find a balance between the new microsite's identity and that of MBX's core website. I wanted there to be a cohesive feel while still providing a differentiation between the two, where the microsite is able to stand on its own yet still provide a similar feel.

The Process

I worked closely with the CSO, marketing manager, and marketing communications manager before starting the designs to first understand the goals behind the microsite. I wanted to gain a better idea of:

Who are we designing for?

What benefit was the microsite going to provide?

How are we going to differentiate ourselves?

What are the constraints?

Through discussions, I was able to understand what the team was envisioning for the website from a business perspective. Next came the visual portion. I began by creating a handful of low fidelity mockups of potential layouts we could have on the website for different vital pages. We went through a few rounds of design critiques in which the team was able to provide feedback for me and the mockups were getting closer and closer to the final product. I was able to iterate on the designs until we reached a point where the website matched their end goal and vision.

At this point in the process, the mockups were ready for color and visuals. I worked closely with the new graphic designer who had just joined the team to finish up this piece of the project. We collaborated in Adobe XD and were able to take the mockups to a high fidelity state that closely represented the final product.

The Solution

Our new graphic designer had a speciality in front end development and was able to bring the designs we worked on to life in Wordpress! In the end, the final product was a huge success. Not only did the website bring in a lot of traffic to MBX, but it helped showcase how the company was a key differentiator compared to its competitors.
